Perfume Review: Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess

To honour this first post, I want to introduce you to one of my all time favourite summer scents: Estée Lauder’s Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche Skinscent. The first time I came across this fragrance was 3 years ago, during my first few days at Estée Lauder. One of my colleagues sprayed it onto her clothes on a miserable November morning, and I remember being immediately drawn to the beach. Forget the dreary weather! All I could think about was the warmth of the sun on my skin, the sand between my toes and a creamy pina colada.

Every summer, Estée Lauder launches the Bronze Goddess Collection, which brings back the much loved limited edition Eau Fraiche along with makeup and body products. This sun-drenched coconut heaven creation is signed by perfume god Alberto Morillas. My personal favs are the body oil and cream, which I like to layer with the perfume after taking a cold shower.

Key notes

Top: mandarin, Sicilian bergamot, lemon and orange

Heart: tiare flower, jasmine, magnolia petals, orange flower buds and lavender

Base: coconut milk, amber, vanilla, sandalwood, vetiver and myrrh

Olfactive classification: Solar Floral

What to expect

From the very first sniff, there is a rush of citrus fruits. A hint of lemon zest is balanced by the mouth-watering sweetness of orange. Don’t be fooled, this brief episode of freshness is quickly overtaken by the creaminess of coconut, which will persist throughout the fragrance. Then there is an explosion of tiare flower laced with ambery notes. This draws me to the beach and the oh so sweet aroma of tanning oils…hello holiday! Finally, after this wave of heat, freshness comes back in the form of transparent florals for a soft and lighter finish.

My olfactive journey

To me, this fragrance is the essence of the beach in a bottle. It’s late afternoon where the golden sun warms the skin for a perfect bronzed tan. Laze your day away.

I’m brought to Ibiza, where every summer I spend some quality time with my family (yes, you can have a chilled time there too). It’s the perfect getaway, a place where you can completely disconnect, where all your worries melt away. It’s very humid and hot, and all I can think about is to go to the beach. After a late lunch, we decide to go to Las Salinas, a beautiful beach with crystal clear waters and velvety sand.

As I stroll down along the boardwalk, a gentle breeze blows softly through my hair, providing a brief sensation of freshness, which mirrors the fresh citrus notes of Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche. I chose to wear a crochet dress paired with camel sandals to stay cool. No one wants to already arrive at the beach hot and sticky!

Despite my best efforts, when my feet touch the burning sand, I can’t resist to dip my toes in the sea. Soon enough all clothes come off, it’s tanning time! Whilst concentrating very hard to absorb as many rays of sun as possible, my senses are tickled by the dreamy scent of coconut and exotic florals. That’s when you know you’re finally on holiday…

Thinking strictly about nothing. Except maybe that I should permanently move to Ibiza…

Wait… let’s get back to reality. It’s really hot and I need a fresh drink. What better way to rehydrate your body than with a REAL coconut, you know the ones you can only find when on holiday.

It’s blazing hot and the tanning process is well under way. The sand is beginning to stick to my skin and I’m in the need of some shade if I don’t want to melt like a popsicle. Luckily for me, I happen to be next to the only palm tree in the area. A palm leaf should do the trick!

It’s now 7.30pm and the heat wave has passed. Everyone knows that it’s the best time to show off your tan (but in my case a bit more work needs to be done). I can feel a hint of breeze caressing my skin once again. The sun rays are warm, but soft and enveloping. Ahh…this is pure bliss!
